Interim
Need someone to cover a gap? We can help with your interim & temporary needs...
What is temporary and interim recruitment?
Temp, contractor, freelancer, consultant, seasonal worker, interim employee, agency worker, short term hire, gig worker.
These are all terms that are thrown around to describe temporary recruitment.
They all essentially mean the same thing: a person hired for a limited period of time to fulfil specific job or project requirements. A temporary worker can be hired directly by a company or through a recruitment agency.
I’m an employer – why would I need a temporary worker?
A temp or interim worker can be great for plugging a gap. You may need to manage increased workload due to the time of year, e.g. holiday cover or year end. Perhaps you have a project to complete or employee absence to cover.
I’m an employer that has never taken on a temp before - what are the benefits?
- A budget-friendly option with no long-term commitment, therefore an opportunity to control and reduce spend
- Temporary workers often come with specific skills or experience. They are used to be being parachuted into an organisation and bringing new ideas
- Faster hiring – you shouldn’t need to go through an exhaustive recruitment process when appointing an experienced temp
- Unsure if you need someone permanent? Interim roles can be a great trial to determine if you need the role long-term and whether the person would be a good fit in a permanent position
Anything else I should consider?
- Work with a reputable agency – make sure they understand the role requirements and are experts in recruiting for this type of role. They should have candidates that are immediately available and have carried out all compliance checks
- Make sure you understand the costs – an agency should give you a total charge rate, either hourly or daily, so you can budget accordingly. There will be a mark-up which includes the agency's margin for sourcing the candidate and managing payroll
- Temp to perm – be aware that there will likely be a cost if you offer your temp a permanent position
- Treat your temp fairly! They may only be with you a short time but make sure you treat them like you would anyone else. To ensure their success, provide onboarding, including any necessary training, and facilitate their integration into the team. Harness the opportunity for a temp to say something good about you and your organisation
I’m looking for work – why should I consider a temporary or interim position?
- Flexibility. Perhaps this will suit how and when you work, enabling you to juggle other life commitments
- Build your professional circle. Having a solid network of people saying good things about you will make you a more appealing candidate to hire
- Better pay? Potentially. Interim workers often earn more. This is partially down to the niche skills you can bring and also the temporary nature of the role. If you can minimise downtime between assignments, you should earn more
- Gain experience and sharpen your skills in a new location, sector, or even type of role. This could be a game changer if you’re plotting a new career path
